ABC Interjet
|
| After an initial investment of over US$60mn, on December 1, 2005., ABC Interjet's inaugural flight hit the skies. |
In 2005, the company acquired 7 Airbus 320 and, in June 2007, it received delivery of the first of a further 20 aircraft. The airline will receive a further 4 planes annually, bringing the final total to 27, by the year 2011.
ABC Interjet began operations with just three routes, between Toluca, its operational base,
and Monterrey, Guadalajara and Cancun. By March 2006, the route
portfolio was increased to 11 destinations, all Mexican, with the
objective of transporting 1.5 million passengers by year end, which
they did.
The airline, on October 23, 2007., was awarded the Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) certification by the International Air Transport Association (I.A.T.A.), which awards recognition to the airline's efforts regarding its operational management and control systems. At the latest count, just 214 airlines worldwide have received this certification.
On August 1, 2008., ABC Interjet bought all the slots belonging to Aerocalifornia at Mexico City International Airport, making it the second Budget airline with services from Latin America's most important airport.
Currently the company offers 18 national destinations and one international route, see below for further details.
