With the initiation of operations, the AIQ brought the commercial, private and cargo activities, along with part of the equipment and human resources, from the Airport "Ing. Fernando Espinosa Gutiérrez."

Since then, the Airport "Ing. Fernando Espinosa Gutiérrez" is dedicated solely to the government aviation sector, while the AIQ has been highly dynamic with regard to the growth of its commercial and private aviation operations.

Currently there are 6 airlines operating out of the AIQ: four national and two international; last year, the airport reached the figure of 22,000 passengers on a monthly basis.

The airport has 12 check-in desks, a control tower, vertical and horizontal signal systems that permit night flights, and space for 28 hangars and four emergency plants.

The commercial runway is 3,500 metres by 45 meters, which means it can receive aircraft such as the Boeing 757 or Airbus 320.

In total, the commercial platform covers 125,000 m2 and offers 18 positions; nine have direct access to combustible.

Regarding cargo, the plataform covers 35,000 m2 and offers five positions.
