Bullfighting

Going to a country with hispanic roots and not paying a visit to a bullfight would be almost a sin. 'La Monumental' Bullring is on Paseo del Triunfo de la República.

Cathedral of the City of Juarez

Annexed to the former Mission, the Cathedral of Ciudad Juárez rises skyward since its construction in 1935. In 1976, the building was remodelled and amplified, the two towers finally being completed in 1978.

The interior is famed for the beauty of its stained-glass windows along with the rifined, neo-classical style of the pediment (triangular form) of the facade.

Central Park: Hermanos Escobar

In the year 1906 the engineer Numa P. Escobar founded the Escuela de Agricultura (Agricultural School) of the City of Juarez, for the formation of agronomists.

Golf

All you golf fans out there should not miss the golf tournament held by Country Club Misión de Los Lagos, on Paseo de la Victoria. The tournament takes place in July.

This select club offers its members and their guests a chance to enjoy beautiful installations and take advantage of the commodity with which yone can indulge in the sporting activity of their choice: obviously the golf course is the main attraction, but also on offer are grand-size swimming pools, along with tennis and racketball courts. The final touch lies in the steam baths, maybe after a workout in the generously-sized gym.

Additionally, Ciudad Juárez also offers the traditional Club Campestre, which, like the aformentioned installations, are distinguished for their excellence and the services offered within.

Guadalupe Mission

This Temple was originally part of the Mission of Our Lady of Guadalupe from Paso del Norte, which was the site of indoctrination for the Piros and Mansos indians, under the charge of Fray García de San Francisco.

The site was also host to the annual caravan troop that came from Mexico City loaded down with merchandise, ornaments arms that the superiors of the Province of the Santo Evangelio sent to the missionary brothers that carried out the indoctrination process in the remote corners of the Kingdom of New Mexico.

In this church the normal Franciscan-mission style is used, simplicity, but with playful use of spaces.

The most interesting detail are the roof beams, comprehensively carved with geometrical elements and completed with a polychromate finish.

All these works of art were carried out by the craftful hands of native students of a group of skillful carpenters who arrived in the Texas town of Pecos, in 1604, passing on their art of wood carving to the indogenous population.

Monument to Juarez

On President Porfirio Díaz' visit to this border in 1909, one of his offical acts was to lay the first stone in the Monument to Juárez.

The initiative for the project was proposed by Don Enrique Creel in 1906.

Marble from the south of the country and even from Europe was used by Julio Corredor, the architect of the monument.

The inauguration of the monument was held in 1910 as part of the festivities celebrating the First Centenary of Mexico's Independance.

Motor Racing in the City of Juarez

An integral part of our epoch is the emotion which comes with velocity. Juarez is home to the autodrome 'Autopista Juárez,' located at kilometer 20 of the international highway, for off-road races that tempt both drivers and spectators.

The season runs from May to July

San Jose Church

This small chapel is the only reminder of what was once the Real Presidio de Nuestra Señora del Pilar y San José, founded by the then Governor of Nuevo México, Domingo Gironza Petriz de Cruzate, in 1682.

Eighty years on, in 1752, the soldiers were sent to form the Presidio del Carrizal, leaving behind the chapel that continues to subsist to this day in the Valle de Juárez.

In the cemetary, to the rear, the names of famous Juárenses from the 19th Century may still be seen on the tombs thus adding interest to a relaxing walk.

Open from 7:00 to 20:00 hrs
